About Larry

IMG_3608-Edit.jpg

Larry Steen is an artist who is compelled to capture images for the same reasons he is passionate about performing and composing music. In both mediums, Steen revels in the moment where balance, harmony and other aesthetic elements “click” into place. His shooting and editing combine the same instinctive, creative immediacy and technical approach seen in his jazz improvisations and compositions. Steen often incorporates abstract, Ukiyo-e, infrared film, lith-print, and silkscreen influences in his multifaceted work. Fundamentally, the artist seeks to uplift and connect humanity while striving for a perspective which is unique and alluring.

Steen’s exhibitions showcase prints from extensive travels around the globe. His fine art photography has been featured in numerous publications, including Hollywood Weekly, Voyage LA and Bold Journey magazines, books published by Crown and Palgrave Macmillan, as well as multiple album covers. His most recent images introduce an unconventional perspective to the iconic sites and expansive landscapes of the desert in and around Palm Springs, California.

Steen is also an award-winning bassist and composer who freelances in a variety of genres, both live and in the studio.  He has performed and recorded for many of the industryʼs top artists and labels, as well as released two original, world jazz albums, First Move and View From Afar (www.LarrySteen.com). He currently co-leads Sip.In.Time (www.sipintime.com) with his vocalist-wife Nikki Steen with whom he resides in Encino, CA along with his precious pup, DoodleBear.
